The Bands and Choirs from Murray Hill had an exciting and extremely successful day at the Music in the Parks Festival at Six Flags America on Saturday, May 7!!! The Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band and the 6th Grade Chorus, 7th/8th Grade Chorus, and Women's Choir competed against many other schools from Virginia and Maryland. They performed at James Hubert Blake High School in Montgomery County and achieved the following results:
Jazz Band—1st Place—Jazz Ensemble Division—SUPERIOR Rating (our Jazz Band has received Superior ratings for three years in a row and they truly "rocked the house" at the festival)
Wind Ensemble—1st Place—Concert Band I Division—SUPERIOR Rating
Symphonic Band—1st Place—Concert Band II Division—EXCELLENT Rating
The Wind Ensemble also received the Outstanding Concert Band Award for the entire festival, receiving a rating higher than all other Middle School/Junior High Bands in attendance!!! They won this honor out of all six of the bands competing at the festival!!!
Women's Choir—1st Place—Women's Choir Division—EXCELLENT Rating
6th Grade Chorus—1st Place—Treble Choir Division—SUPERIOR Rating
7th/8th Grade Chorus—1st Place—Mixed Choir I Division—EXCELLENT Rating
The 6th Grade Chorus also received the Outstanding Choir Award for the entire festival, receiving a rating higher than all other Middle School/Junior High Choirs in attendance!!! They won this honor out of all six of the choirs competing at the festival!!!
Murray Hill also received a medal for the following individual achievement:
Outstanding Vocal Soloist—Salome Sykes (for her solo with the 7th/8th Grade Chorus in "Wade in the Water")
It was an awesome day for the Music Department!!! With chaperones, students and other guests we had over 200 people in attendance at this festival!!! We have so much to be proud of and thankful for with our outstanding singers and musicians!!! They were amazing!!!
